Carlos Mercado figurative art represents the beauty of his culture and a nostalgia for retro photographs of architecture and agriculture in Puerto Rico from the 1930s to the early fifties, a golden era that captures the essence and beauty of its people.

Mercado is highly committed to his work. The fundamental aspects of this artist's production are grounded in his dedication to the medium as well as his compromise with his point of view. The search for new ways of expression has led to gradual changes in his point of view and stylistic modifications.
In the last few years, he has explored big-format art installations in open-air spaces in Fuerte San Cristobal and Dorado Beach Ritz Reserve, Puerto Rico, in collaboration with the Arte Fitts Foundation.
In May 2023, Mercado opened a gallery space in Madrid in the prestigious zone of Salesas, the new Soho of Madrid. Mercado is the cultural ambassador for the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, promoting cultural tourism and the international exchange of artists from Puerto Rico and Spain.
