Summertime: Luisa Freixas, Rebeca Mendoza & Valeria Vilar

June 8 – August 31, 2023

SUMMERTIME features three Argentinean artists: Luisa Freixas, Rebeca Mendoza & Valeria Vilar.

In her process of creation, Luisa Freixas begins tuning in to emotions that arise from her life experiences. She work in layers, being each layer a certain feeling that she represents with different materials. New shapes appear from this formula, as she watches the transformation of the work, layer by layer. The end result? Those apparently disordered feelings get organized in the work, and inside her.
Rebeca Mendoza plays with simultaneity, superimposition, and ambiguity in her work as she goes through the stages of oil painting. The artist sets out to entice a direct dialogue with her audience only to let personal emotion arising from the work lead her mark making, until each different situation becomes harmonious to complete the whole.
Valeria Vilar dissolves and gives rise to strokes of abstraction through figuration allowing viewers to recompose the story. She reconstructs and creates spaces from memories, tales, dreams, and recondite places of imagination and fantasy.
